Music
Music at a service at Little Fork Episcopal reflects the intergenerational nature of our congregation. As music director, a typical service I program includes a mixture of Gospel, Traditional Hymns, Contemporary Christian music for congregational singing.
As a pianist I am a big fan of both jazz and classical music, and I like to weave those into preludes and postludes and other music we have. My philosophy is that whether sacred or secular, there are many pieces of music out there that can prepare our hearts and minds for worship with the attitude and moods they offer. Some of my favorites to set our minds to gather for worship are preludes by Bach, Debussy, and Chopin and character pieces by Moussorgsky and Grieg. As we leave the doors of the church and go out into the world to serve God, I like to draw inspiration from Gospel songs and hymns and use my improvisation skills to create a joyful, jazzy, departure.
One of my favorite things about Little Fork is how much of our congregation is engaged in the service. While we donāt have a standing āchoir,ā we frequently coordinate small group performances by congregation members for important occasions, and compared to a larger congregation, our musical participation at Little Fork is proportionally strong. I think this reflects our desire to make a joyful noise for The Lord at Little Fork. Regardless of your musical talent, you are always welcome to join us in lifting up our God in song! -Ben Grove
