Little Fork Church Notes From History July 4, 2024
A Preview Of What Is Coming Next...
I have been trying to come up with articles of interest on a weekly basis to publish on our web site and at times failed to find just the right one for that week. The problem has been that there are so many interesting things in our past. So many records thought to be lost are turning up and scanning and cataloguing is slowly returning rewards.
Back in November of 2021 Julie Basic (our Landscape Architect) and I were both attempting to research St. Stephens records for the original Saint Mark Parish Vestry Book & Levies 1730 - 1785. I had scanned a transcribed version and we were looking for the possible recording of colonial burials at Little Fork.
After the DAR tour last month Mary Ann Cowherd (a St. Stephens Vestry member) reminded me that I offered to help them with their library. Thru the years Little Fork had nowhere safe to store the Parish records and St. Stephens became the repository. So much of Little Fork and St. Stephens is entwined. This past week I have scanned over 1200 pages that will be available soon.
The following is a list of the subjects.
St. Mark's Parish Leaflet, 1913-1935 Bound edition for the years of Rev. Kensey Johns Hammond
St. Mark's Parish Register, 1794-1830
St. Mark's Parish Register Volume II, 1869-1888
Register of Church Services, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1956-2019, 8 books
Much more to come,
Don Stockton
