Funerals
Funerals in the Episcopal Church
The Rite of the Burial of the Dead serves two purposes in the Episcopal Church. First, it is primarily an Easter liturgy. Like Christ on the morning of his Resurrection, our loved one has entered into a full Communion of divine love and a complete experience of God’s grace in a way not possible on Earth. The funeral rites celebrate this momentous and joyous event with numerous parts from the Easter Mass. Simultaneously, the rite is for those of us still living who mourn and remember the life our loved one led.
