Little Fork Church Notes From History June 6, 2024
Saint James Episcopal Church in Brandy Station, one of three at the time Church’s in St. Mark’s Parish, is located in the middle of the Battlefield of the largest Calvary battle in the Western Hemisphere. Barley 20 years old the Church was destroyed and every brick was taken and used for chimney’s for the Union Army during the winter of 1863/4. Between July 25th and August 4th, 1989 I had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks paid vacation from work to participate in limited Archaeological testing and documentation for Christ Episcopal Church in Brandy. Old stories had been passed down through the years of Southern soldiers being buried in the cemetery in coffins made from the pews of the church. The surrounding land had been purchased by a developer and the small acreage was again under attack. Following the survey a very interesting report was published for the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church which is now extremely hard to find. Little Fork Church, also of St. Mark’s Parish would like to present the report on “The History and Archaeology of St’ James Episcopal Church” Click to read.
Clark B. Hall found this sketch of St’ James years later. It now proudly hangs in Christ Church Brandy
